cult in Vreden

From old to new...
Modern architecture, museum, research and science - a place for culture and living tradition

The district of Borken and the city of Vreden jointly developed the project idea for the cult - culture and living tradition Westmünsterland. In 2014, demolition and reconstruction work began on the Hamaland Museum, which had long been in need of renovation. Parts of the former district museum were integrated into the new building ensemble. At the same time the area doubled. This was also necessary, because in addition to a new museum area, the historical archive of the Borken district, the city archive Vreden, the former Landeskundliches Institut of the district and the county homeland care, the county monument care and the cultural department of the Borken district are also integrated in the cult. In the kult, the different departments interlock, support each other and thus become a common institution, which as a competence center offers added value for the entire region. the juxtaposition of old and new could not be greater in the building, which opens in the summer of 2017. Fair-faced concrete, dominant clinker facades, light-flooded areas and a "chill-out" zone set an extraordinary accent on the cultural axis of the city of Vreden. Folkloric and art historical exhibits from the everyday life of the people undertake a time travel over more than 1,400 years into the past. This change of perspective is what makes the kult so attractive and unusual! kult is a cultural exchange hub on the border with the Netherlands and an architectural highlight alongside historic churches and the natural area around the Berkel.
